what is carrear aggregation
Carrier aggregation is probably the most important thing that's happening in mobile right now.
And the way to think about carrier aggregation is this.
If, let's say this tower serving
you is like a beer tap, right, and the glass
is a smartphone and beer being poured into
a smartphone is a movie that you're trying
to download, okay.
If I, you know, fill the glass from the beer
tap, then it will take a certain amount of time .
But if I were to fill it from two beer
taps simultaneously, then I, you know, the
beer would, you know, fill the glass in half
the time.
And that's basically what we're doing. Instead
of providing the phone with just one LTE connection,
the tower actually connects to the phone using
two LTE connections or even three LTE connections
at the same time.
Carrier aggregation is kind of the latest
way that we have figured out how to really
boost the capacity of the network, and once
we do that, you know, then the users can experience
much higher speeds.
So could you be doubling your speed or even
tripling your speed. And that's amazing.
Let's say I have a big file that's stored
in cloud storage, right, that I need to download
to my phone, well now I can download it in
literally a fraction of the time, right, in
half the time or a third of the time.
Download speeds that are faster, upload speeds
that are faster, you know, high resolution
videos that can stream without buffering,
etc.
So solving for capacity is kind of like the
quest, the ultimate quest for everything that
we do with mobile networks.
Honestly, the best way to describe how it
works, if you dive deep into it, it's black
magic.
I mean it's amazing that we can take two connections
that exist in physical space completely separately
and combine them in the phone in such a way
that they can be treated as one much bigger,
much faster connection, and that's exactly
what carrier aggregation does.
